Russian Niello Silver Snuff Box, Moscow, 1883
Rectangular silver-gilt and niello snuff box, hallmarked in Moscow in 1883. The marks include the “84” zolotniki standard (equivalent to 875/1000), the assay master’s head, and the maker’s initials “ИВ”. The lid features a port scene with sailing ships and classical buildings; the reverse shows a fortress with towers and stylized trees, reflecting the narrative and decorative style typical of late 19th-century Russian craftsmanship. The interior is fully gilt. A fine example of late Imperial Russian niello work.
