First negative (small format)
Outdoor family scene, group of people photographed in a wooded setting. Typical of amateur or family shots taken in the late XIXᵉ century or very early XXᵉ century.
Framing: ornate gilded brass frame, to be suspended by chain.
Second negative (large format)
Photographic reproduction of a religious illumination from a medieval antiphonary. The scene depicts the Adoration of the Magi, with details of the neumatic notation typical of early liturgical music.
Framing: hammered metal frame with hanging chain (later work, 1940s-1950s).
These two objects illustrate the varied uses of the glass plate negative at the end of the XIXᵉ century: private souvenir for one, iconographic study for the other.
Condition: very good overall. Slight wear and tear due to the nature of the glass plates.
Please note: the image becomes legible when viewed against a light background or in natural light.
