Elegant 18th century Dutch marquetry chest of drawers with a curved front, opening with five drawers and a drop-leaf revealing a charming interior with eight small drawers, five compartments, and a central lockable compartment. A secret drawer completes this ingenious arrangement.
Its marquetry decoration is exceptionally rich: geometric friezes, floral scrolls, bouquets, baskets, and ribbons unfold across the entire piece with remarkable finesse. The warm tones of the wood contrast harmoniously with the lighter woods of the floral motifs, demonstrating refined cabinetmaking and perfect mastery of design.
The interior features a well-preserved desk pad lined with green felt and delicate plant inlays. The sides, also decorated, highlight the quality of a piece designed to be viewed from all angles.
The elongated uprights rest on claw feet, typical of the Dutch taste of the second half of the 18th century, in the Louis XVI style. The original bronze handles and locks decorated with rams complete this set of great character.
Good overall condition: old restorations; restorations to be expected on the sides (cracks).
Fine 18th-century Dutch work.
