This work by Elias Jozsa presents a floral and fruit composition executed in a style clearly inspired by 18th-century models. The artist organizes the scene around a large bouquet placed in a pedestal vase, forming the central axis of the composition. The whole is characterized by the meticulous depiction of a wide range of floral species, including variegated tulips, peonies, roses, and various wildflowers, along with a few bluish inflorescences. The precise and regular treatment of the petals is enhanced by a measured lateral light, allowing for a clear perception of the volumes.
The lower section brings together a collection of fruit arranged on a ledge, in a manner consistent with the practices of Northern European schools: bunches of grapes with distinctly individual berries, pears, peaches, and cherries. The modeling of these elements demonstrates a constant concern for naturalism, also evident in the depiction of a few insects scattered throughout the composition.
The uniform, brown-toned background helps to isolate the main elements and enhances the overall clarity. The technically masterful execution is distinguished by a coherent color palette and a rigorous organization of planes.
The paint layer is sound and shows no major alterations. The work is preserved in a gilt wood and stucco frame, adorned with rocaille motifs in the spandrels and centers, in very good condition.
