Hand-knotted rug in Iran around 1920 - 1930 in very good condition.
We are still under the Kajar dynasty which ended in 1925.
The beginning of the manufacture of Ghoum rugs was established in this city around 1920/1930 at the initiative and perseverance of the knotters and merchants of Kashan.
We also find many similarities in the medallions and borders with the Kashan type.
Our model has a pile and selvedges in very good condition, very light wear, which is normal for this type of old piece.
The manufacture of these beautiful, very resistant rugs is certainly recent, but they have an important reputation throughout the world.
The skillful and precise knotters as well as the "Ostads" cartoon designers have imposed their know-how, thanks to the perfection of their work and the breadth of the range of designs and colors.
# The second holiest city in Iran, 150 km from Tehran, Ghoum is a major theological center.
Its old name Koumandân would have been abbreviated by the Arab geographer Yakut. The knot used is the Persian knot tied very tightly on a fine wool of very good quality and a mixture of silk.
70 knots on 10 cm of width. 80 knots on 10 cm of length.
560,000 knots per m2
A blue linen reinforcement band encircles the back of the carpet.
The decorations of plants, flowers, intertwined vegetation and animals, as well as the use of wool mixed with silk is done regularly.
Each type of design remains stylized and the use of colors on the ghoum is always very harmonious. Our model presents a geometric medallion in a flowered pyramid surrounded by other pyramids of flowers placed in vases like floral offerings or like a table presenting dishes.
The whole gives the impression of a spectacular banquet surrounded by the outline of a niche.
The marketing of the Ghoum is done under several names: Qom, Ghom, Gom, Qum, and Kum. Our model with its countless stylized flowers is in collector's condition, in a beautiful classical spirit and unusual colors.
The border, with lobes placed like inverted mausoleums, is also adorned with flowers and a beautiful peach color.
# Note the purple of the bouquets, a color reserved for the king.
In summary, a beautiful old collector's piece, uncommon on the market. We find pieces with resemblances to our model in certain museums in Iran and Europe, as well as in large collections.
