Two notarial deeds, drawn up on March 6 and April 20, 1530 (7th year of the pontificate of Clement VII) in Bourg en Bresse for one. And Saint-Trivier (probably Saint-Trivier-de-Courtes or Saint-Trivier-sur-Moignans) for the other. Antoine de Fetans, citizen of Valence, constitutes a dowry for his daughter Antoinette, who has become a nun in the Chartreuse de Poleteins, (formerly located in the current commune of Mionnay, Ain). The dowry amounts to 100 gold florins, intended to provide for Antoinette's needs and to ensure her integration into the monastery, according to the rules specific to the Carthusian order. An annual perpetual annuity of 30 florins is added. ...the said noble Anthoine, in consideration of his daughter's entry into religion in the said charterhouse, for the endowment thereof, has given, ceded, transferred and by these presents gives, cedes and transfers to the said sister Antoinette... It is specified that the young woman will be prioress (rank below abbess). Many legal conditions are mentioned. This document illustrates the strategies of placement in the female clergy, of members of noble families. The interest being to save the soul of the donor and his heirs, and to bring prestige and respectability. The Chartreuse de Poleteins, founded at the beginning of the 13th century, was pillaged by the Huguenots in 1562. At the beginning of the 17th century, it was abandoned. Sold as national property in 1791. Totally destroyed in 1878. (See end of slideshow). A transcription of the 2 documents will be given to the purchaser.
