Lola Fernández Caballero is a key figure in the history of 20th-century Costa Rican art. Alongside Rafael Ángel "Felo" García and Manuel de la Cruz González, she is considered a pioneer of abstract painting in our country.
Her nearly 70 years of work have led to a career that has led her to exhibit in Latin America, Europe, and the United States.
She is also a key figure in art education in Costa Rica, having taught for 32 years at the School of Visual Arts of the University of Costa Rica (UCR), where she also received her professional training from Francisco Amighetti, Teodorico Quirós, Carlos Salazar Herrera, Margarita Bertheau, and Emma Gamboa, among others.
