Honoré Camos (1906 - 1991), born in Vallauris, was a self-taught painter with a passion for nature and the light of the South. Before the war, he opened a ceramics studio in his hometown and spent time with Picasso, which contributed to his relative fame. Unpretentious, he devoted his life to painting simple, rural, sun-drenched scenes from nature. Gifted with a keen sense of observation and a remarkable gift for color, Camos painted a vibrant and luminous Provence. A poet at heart, he loved to sing and tell stories, and even attempted a career as a trooper comedian. His work reflects his taste for banter, tender humor, and joie de vivre. He himself said that nature was his greatest subject: flamboyant trees, birdsong, sunsets—so many treasures that he sought to capture, humbly, with the tip of his brush. At 70, he wrote a true manifesto of love for nature, the wind, the sun, and the silence of the hills.
