Authentic oval-shaped reliquary, made using the precious quilling technique, typical of Baroque devotion of the 18th and 19th centuries.
Description
This reliquary contains in its center a hand-painted image of Saint Paschal Baylon, a Spanish Franciscan canonized in 1690, known for his great Eucharistic piety. He is depicted in a brown monk's habit, his hands crossed on his chest, surrounded by a luminous halo.
In the background, a monstrance is visible, a symbol of his devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.Around the central image develops a richly ornamented miniature architectural composition: polychrome twisted columns, a triangular pediment, volutes and floral motifs in hand-rolled gilded paper – a work of exceptional finesse.
This type of object is typical of Roman or Neapolitan production of the late 18th century.
