"Small Louis XVI Style Stool – Late 19th Century. "
Charming little Louis XVI style footstool, made in the late 19th century. It is made of carved and painted beech, resting on four tapered legs with rings and fluting, topped with connecting dice carved with diamond points. The belt crosspieces are molded, respecting the neoclassical decorative vocabulary. The structure is sound and the wood in good condition. The stool has an old paint in bluish-gray tones, partially worn by time. Small losses and rubbings reveal an ochre undercoat as well as remnants of gilding, which suggests that it was originally gilded – a common practice in Louis XVI style furniture at the end of the 19th century. The seat has been freshly relined, in very good condition, and covered with a high-end fabric from the Lelièvre house – Quenin collection, “Églantine” model, with stylized floral motifs in bright and contrasting tones. Matching trimmings highlight the belt. Dimensions: Height: 20 cm Width: 34 cm Depth: 29 cm
