"Pair Of Louis XV Period Cabriolet Armchairs In Lacquered Beech."
Pair of Louis XV period cabriolet armchairs in molded and carved beechwood with flowers, circa 1760. The cabriolet backs, the armrests with cuffs on curved consoles, the arched legs and the sinuous belt present all the characteristics of the 18th century French seat. The armchairs were restored about fifteen years ago. The wood is sound and solid, and the light blue lacquer, applied on this occasion, retains a soft and even patina. The upholstery is traditional, in horsehair, comfortable and in perfect condition. They were reupholstered at great expense with the “Lampas Chinois” fabric from the house of Edmond Petit, a high-quality upholstery silk, decorated with chinoiserie: pavilions, foliage, flowers and stylized birds, on a navy blue background. The whole offers a beautiful harmony between the tone of the painting and the fabric.
