Object description :

"Giltwood Framed Mirror – Empire/restoration Period, Circa 1815–1830. "
Wood and gilt stucco frame, Empire or Restoration period, decorated with a light relief of radiating palmettes, stylized fleurons, acanthus leaves and vegetal scrolls characteristic of the transition between the neoclassical styles of the late Empire and the beginnings of the Restoration. The original gilding has a beautiful old patina, with wear and some visible assembly cracks, typical of its age. The whole remains in very good condition. The current mirror, old but later, is probably an addition from the late 19th century. It is possible that this frame was transformed into a mirror at this time, or that the original glass was replaced. The rear parquet, in wooden planks, is also later. This mirror can be hung or placed on a piece of furniture. It constitutes a refined and sober decorative piece, very representative of the classical taste of the years 1815–1830.
