Greek articulated terracotta statuette – Female doll with hair in a bun, Greece – 5th century BC.
Greece, classical art, around 450 BC.
Pinkish beige terracotta
Height: 19 cm
Good condition, with slight restorations visible, but retaining all the formal reading of the object.
Provenance: Galerie François Antonovitch, Paris, acquired in 1982
Elegant female terracotta statuette, depicting a young nude woman, standing, arms at her sides and legs straight. The carefully modeled hair is gathered in a high bun at the top of the skull, framing a face with a serene modeling, typical of Attic statuary of the 5th century BC.
The body is sculpted in one piece with the head, while the arms and legs are articulated. The slender and stylized modeling, the balanced proportions, as well as the refinement of the hairstyle testify to a quality production, probably from an Attic or Boeotian workshop.
