"Fernand Maillaud (1863-1948) Trees And Flowers In Summer. Crozant School, Berry, Châteauroux, Rue"
New work by Fernand Maillaud, here a small oil on panel representing a summer landscape with trees and flowers, most likely in Creuse or Berry, signed lower right + stamp of the Van Ryck gallery boulevard Malesherbes in Paris. Size of the painting alone without frame 21.5x22.5cm and 28.5x29cm including frame. This is therefore a new painting by Fernand Maillaud, very impressionist in style, personally the one I prefer, around 1920/1930, he paints here a pure landscape, taken in summer under the foliage of trees and flowerbeds. He therefore uses his impressionist touch made of small successive touches, he also plays skillfully with the support by leaving some reserves, all in a lively and colorful palette where soft greens dominate embellished with blues, white, carmine red, yellow .... I no longer present Fernand Maillaud, excellent painter "reference" of the school of Crozant, with his views of the banks of Creuse, but also and especially those of his native country Berry. His fame is no longer to be made, even across the Atlantic where he had enormous success during his lifetime and still today. Maillaud achieved fame thanks to his rustic scenes of the peasant world, but also with his famous market scenes; but he was also recognized for his orientalist scenes, his views of Venice or Paris at his beginnings, some of which are preserved at the Carnavalet Museum in Paris. He was also close to the famous poet Maurice Rollinat whom he sketched several times. His attachment to his native Berry and to the Creuse region earned him a place among the best painters of the Crozant school alongside Detroy, Guillaumin and Alluaud. It was believed that his popularity was declining, yet his paintings have still sold very well very recently with peaks of over €3,500. He is therefore an emblematic painter of the Crozant school, but also of the Provençal school, also renowned for his orientalist scenes, his portraits and finally his tapestries and even his sculpted furniture. Several works exist on this artist. This painting is therefore in perfect condition, delivered in an old frame decorated with a nameplate. Work guaranteed authentic
