"Fernand Maillaud (1863-1948) Lively Alley In Hyères. Crozant And Provençal School. Berry, Street"
2nd new work by Fernand Maillaud, this time a gouache representing a lively alley in Hyères in the Var, signed and located at the bottom right + numerous old period labels on the back. Format of the gouache alone without frame 27x35cm and 30.5x38.5cm including frame or 41x49cm in modern gilded frame (3rd photo) This is therefore a 2nd work, this time a gouache, still from his impressionist period, he paints here a lively view of Hyères in the Var, a region where he lived for many years after having built a villa on the heights of Toulon, the Florentine. Gouache was a technique that Maillaud appreciated enormously, he produced many of them, surely the technique where he let himself go the most, without possible repentance, he then exploited all his talent as a draftsman, he skillfully played with the support by leaving reserves and transcribed as well as possible the Provençal light thanks in particular to subtle touches of white. His gouaches are always of very high quality, remember my 2 animated views of the port of Algiers, pure masterpieces. I no longer present Fernand Maillaud, excellent painter "reference" of the Crozant school, with his views of the banks of Creuse, but also and especially those of his native country Berry. His reputation is no longer to be made, even across the Atlantic where he had enormous success during his lifetime and still today. Maillaud achieved fame thanks to his rustic scenes of the peasant world, but also with his famous market scenes; but he was also recognized for his orientalist scenes, his views of Venice or Paris in his early days, some of which are preserved at the Musée Carnavalet in Paris. He was also close to the famous poet Maurice Rollinat, whom he sketched several times. His attachment to his native Berry as well as to the Creuse earned him a place among the best painters of the Crozant school alongside Detroy, Guillaumin or Alluaud. It was believed that his popularity was losing ground, yet his paintings have still sold very well very recently with peaks of more than €3,500. So emblematic painter of the Crozant school, but also of the Provençal school, also renowned for his orientalist scenes, his portraits and finally his tapestries and even his sculpted furniture. Several works exist on this artist. This gouache is therefore in perfect condition, I can offer it at 480€ either in its period frame which unfortunately has some missing parts or without a frame or finally at 550€ delivered in a modern gilded frame with marie-louise and anti-reflective glass, at your choice. Work guaranteed authentic
