Onnaing, Polychrome Earthenware Pig Pitcher, Circa 1920
A zoomorphic polychrome slip pitcher, representing a pig "maître d'hôtel"
Marked on the reverse Frie (for Faïencerie) Onnaing, Made in France, numbered 737.
This mark authenticates the period of manufacture (after the First World War)
The pig is dressed as a waiter, a bottle of wine under one arm and a napkin draped over the other. He is holding a cork and a bottle opener, and is seated on a chair which forms the handle. He wears a white apron tied over a gray suit, a red tie and boutonniere, and a turquoise cap. The interior is covered with the red glaze for which Onnaing is famous.
