Magnificent French Empire ovoid vase painted with a southern landscape and a lively peasant scene (Old Paris)The term Old Paris is a collective term for all the factories that operated in Paris between 1770 and 1880. Shortly after the French Revolution, dozens of porcelain factories settled in the French capital. This typically Parisian porcelain is characterized by a granular, hard, and dense shard, snow-white in color, often covered with gilt decoration. These factories produced the same type of porcelain, with a quality kaolin paste and gilt or polychrome decorations. The front of the vase depicts a scene of a merchant in conversation with a French peasant woman at the end of the 18th century. The back of the vase is decorated with a landscape depicting a country house by a lake.Condition: The vase is in good condition. The upper overglaze gold painting shows normal signs of wear.
