An extraordinary Cosmatesque tile in Greek banded marble, inlaid with geometric motifs in red and green porphyry, white marble and gilded glass pastes.Of Central Italian cosmatesque manufacture, the tile was made between the 12th and 13th centuries on reused material, as was often the case in the Middle Ages, where classical works were reinterpreted and translated according to the style of the time.
In excellent condition, it has a splendid patina, especially in the wrinkles of the material, where it has not been affected by recent cleaning.
