"Large Indo-persian Vase In Embossed And Lacquered Brass, Late 19th Century"
Imposing embossed brass vase with stylized floral decoration, of Indo-Persian inspiration, measuring 88 cm in height. The object has a slender silhouette on a widened circular base, with a widely flared opening. The surface is richly decorated with floral motifs engraved and lacquered in polychrome: red, gold, black and green, revealing work of engraving and incised lacquer (technique related to champlevé or niello). These ornaments are enhanced with gilded highlights and present old and authentic wear, with a deep patina and pigment cracks of the most beautiful effect, characteristic of an old and unrestored object. The interior of the vase is raw, not tinned or enameled, confirming its purely decorative vocation, the object is in its original state. Probably made in a region of North India (Rajasthan or Kashmir) or the Iranian plateau (Isfahan region), around 1880 Height: 88 cm Base diameter: approx. 26 cm Opening diameter: approx. 24 cm Very beautiful old patina. Some losses and flaking in the lacquer, visible in the photos, without structural fragility. Stable and solid piece. An exceptional piece of oriental decoration, both rare in its size and the finesse of its decoration. Ideal for decorating an orientalist or bohemian chic style interior, or to complete a collection of Islamic or Indian art. Hand delivery preferred due to the fragility of the lacquer and the imposing size of the object. Possibility of delivery via specialized carrier on estimate.
