A pair of small late 19th century pair Venetian school depictions of Venetian scenes attributed to the circle of Giuseppe Ponga (1856-1925.
The paintings are extremely close to the painters work and in our opinion probsbly by Ponga himself although this will need more research to establish an attribution.
Wonderfully composed and full of vibrant tonality the paintings are in good cleaned condition and ready to hang on the wall.
Giuseppe Ponga (Venice 1856 - Venice 1925)
After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, his vast oeuvre ranges over various artistic fields, ranging from mural and easel painting to miniature and watercolor, always retracing the manner and themes of the eighteenth-century models by G. B. Tiepolo and F. Look. He received prestigious commissions, such as the decorations of the Palace of the Parliament of Budapest and some rooms of the Royal Palace of Venice
The first painting shows a Venetian scene painting attributed to Giuseppe Ponga, likely depicting the "Bacino di San Marco". View of Venice, possibly the "Bacino di San Marco" with the Island of San Giorgio visible.
Giuseppe Ponga (1856-1925), was an Italian painter known for Venetian scenes. The stylistic compostion and ouvre is very close to that of Ponga and very typical of his work.
The second painting we believe depicts the waterfront with boats and architectural landmarks like the domes of the basilica and the tip of the customs house. It also captures a sequence of monuments overlooking the lagoon, possibly including the Palazzo dei Dogi.
Framing: Presented in a carved and probably original gilded wooden frame.
Possible Location Depicted: The study could be painted from the Riva degli Schiavoni, showcasing the columns of the square and the bell tower. An alternative interpretation might be a view of the Grand Canal towards Palazzo Labia
The second painting in the pair shows a view ,The image is a painting of Piazza San Marco in Venice, Italy, and is also likely to have been painted in the late 19tn century circa 1890-1900' likely from the early 19th century.
Known as "the drawing room of Europe," Piazza San Marco is a major public square and a popular tourist destination.and has been for centuries.
The Piazza San Marco is situatied in the heart of Venice, it is the city's main public square and of great historical significance: Dating back to the 9th century, it has been a centre for social, religious, and political activities.
