Object description :

"Pair Of Large Carved Vases – Japan, Meiji Period"
Rare and impressive pair of hexagonal vases from Japan, Meiji period, carved in a natural bone-like material. The finely engraved decoration represents traditional Japanese scenes: figures in kimono, birds, peonies and other floral motifs. Each vase is topped with an openwork structure containing a sculpted figurine, evoking a temple or a miniature pavilion. Typical pieces of Japanese art exported at the end of the 19th century, in the midst of the Japonisme movement. Dimensions: Height: 32 cm Width at the base: approx. 8 cm Condition: Very good general condition with beautiful patina. Small marks of time are possible, without altering the quality of presentation.
