The knife handles are mother-of-pearl. The bolsters are silver-gilt. The rear bolster is crosier-shaped, decorated with scrolls of acanthus leaves and flowers. The front bolster features the same superb, highly refined decoration. The scrolls appear to unfold over the mother-of-pearl in a very natural, organic manner.
The saber blades are also silver-gilt.
The knives come in a small iron-gilded case.
Each blade is hallmarked:
. Minerva, 2nd grade, before 1973 for 800/°° silver.
Silversmith's mark: A Vaguer for Alexandre Vaguer, active from 1884 to 1920.
Alexandre Vaguer and his brother Léon, respectively a silversmith and jeweler, have unjustly fallen into oblivion despite the quality of their work.
Magnificent knives, the crook-shaped ornaments are rare and extremely precious. They contrast beautifully with the mother-of-pearl of the handle. They have a beautiful roundness, very pleasant in the hand, and superb reflections and iridescence.
