"Empire Period Empire "
Majestic Terracotta Eagle Sculpture – First Empire Period, Early 19th CenturyCurrently, the eagle is presented in its original color, a natural terracotta shade, patinated by time. Its surface, once more homogeneous, has deteriorated due to its prolonged outdoor exposure, removing the initial hardness of its material. Here is a visual suggestion of what our eagle could look like today if we had it re-gilded, or if its future owner undertook to have it restored with gold leaf: a metamorphosis that magnifies the finesse of its feathers and the nobility of its posture, while restoring the symbolic power it embodies. We offer it for sale in its current state, in terracotta and in its original color. It goes without saying that any gilding or additional work will remain entirely the responsibility of the new owner. On the other hand, Galerie De Cicco kindly takes care of delivery throughout France. This important terracotta sculpture, representing an imperial eagle with outstretched wings, embodies all the symbolic power of the Napoleonic Empire. Dating from the early 19th century, it was most likely intended to occupy a central place in a prestigious place – perhaps a circle of officers or a high-ranking military institution – as an emblem of power and sovereignty.Origin & HistoryFormerly gilded with gold leaf, the piece still retains in places the delicate traces of its original gilding, a moving testimony to its splendorous past. Acquired during my travels from an old Italian family who owned it by inheritance, it has crossed the centuries with intact nobility, carrying within it the glorious spirit of the imperial era.
