It is an oil painting; as you can see in the photos, the panel shows a crack, but nothing serious considering its age.
A Latin inscription in gold letters at the bottom of the painting reads:
"True effigy of the living image of our Savior Jesus Christ which was established in Rome by Saint John."
Below, under the red line:
"This line taken ten times is the true length of the body of Our Savior Jesus Christ as it was then sent from Jerusalem to Rome."
It refers to the red line that separates the two parts of the text.
A very unusual painting — in several years of collecting, I have never come across such a representation.
As shown in the photos, the panel has a crack and some touch-ups, notably on the forehead.
The face of Christ is surrounded by golden rays, which gives an even more mystical aspect to this rare depiction.
The painting is presented in an old carved wooden frame, likely later than the painting itself.
