Paris: Large Jasmine Cup, Early 19th Century

Large cup and saucer with neoclassical decoration on a brown background, embellished with gilding representing cherubs. Beautiful Parisian work, early 19th century. The cup, jasmine-shaped on a pedestal with a raised handle, presents a refined iconography: white and gray figures, similar to cherubs, symbolize, through their attributes (flowers, apple pierced by an arrow), love. These scenes are arranged under gilded arches, framed by stylized columns. The decoration skillfully mixes geometric motifs and mythological elements, in a harmony of brown, gold and white. The attention to detail pushed to its paroxysm is perceptible through the representation of a lion's head in biscuit in the volute. The matching saucer takes up this same decorative iconography, with a brown band enhanced with naive flowers, framed by delicate friezes. The generous use of gold and the finesse of the design demonstrate great craftsmanship.
