Iranian open djoval rug, wool, circa 1950. Authentic piece. Very good condition.
'Lur bakthiari' refers to a nomadic population of Lur origin, settled in the Chahar Mahal (bakthiari), near Mount Zagros (western Iran).
This djoval originally served as a packsaddle intended to carry the nomads' personal belongings. Djovals (large simple bags) were attached to the sides of donkeys. This piece is made with the 'souf' technique (kilim, soumak and knotted stitches). Some restorations over time.
