"Art Deco Art Deco Period."
Exceptional Art Deco double buckle – belt buckle. Description: Here is a rare piece that is deeply evocative of the graphic elegance of the 1930s: an Art Deco double buckle, in marbled galalith in shimmering shades of absinthe green, powder pink and lemon yellow, framed in dark lacquers and highlighted by a remarkably fine silver-plated metal thread. Designed to accommodate a leather cord – probably for a feminine belt or a choker – this piece evokes all the refinement of a high-society fashion accessory of the interwar period, when the utilitarian object became an aesthetic manifesto. The object bears on the reverse the words “Made in France”, originally engraved – a guarantee of know-how, but also of independent creation, at a time when many artisans worked for fashion houses or luxury workshops without necessarily signing their work. Galalith, a noble and ecological material derived from milk, was prized by avant-garde designers for its brilliance, lightness and infinite color palette.⸻Technical details:• Period: Art Deco, circa 1930• Origin: France (“Made in France” marking on the reverse)• Materials: Marbled Galalith, black lacquer, silver-plated metal threads• Condition: Very good original condition, some micro-scratches from use on the surface, period patina preserved⸻Made in France, circa 1930Belt element or stylized clasp – Marbled Galalith and black lacquer, metal detailsDimensions:• Left buckle: L 3.2 cm × H 2.9 cm• Right buckle: L 3.5 cm × H 2.9 cm• Total length once assembled: 7 cm⸻Note: This object, halfway between jewelry and fashion accessory, deserves to be diverted into a contemporary brooch, or even framed as a sculptural testimony to French Art Deco.
