Interesting gouache drawing on beige paper. Illustration of a fable by Jean de La Fontaine, " An Old Man and Three Young Men". Three young shepherds dressed in antique style are speaking to an old man, who is on one knee. Sheep, a dog, a village in the distance, in a valley. Two silhouettes of women on the left. Ink and ink wash, significant highlights of white gouache, which give a lot of relief to the figures. Very sure hand, beautiful studies of anatomy. First half of the 19th century. France.
