Bronze Christ, hollow cast, 16th century
Produced in South and East of France, this kind of Christ is typical of French Renaissance. He keeps an archaic design of torso, with a round belly and marked sub-mammary ridges. Perizonium knotted on the right hip is short, and crown shows a braided motif. Rotating inward feet lead to a slight knees divergence, while the legs are hardly bent. Arms are almost in horizontal position, with curved fingers. Christ is nailed on a painted black wooden cross, from a later age.
This specimen has the specificity to have two unusual small bronze excrescences under wrists, probably designed to set it on a particular cross or device.
Excellent condition, brown patina. A small hole above the perizonium that seems to be a cast flaw.
