"Model Of A Theatre Set From The Jambon-bailly Workshops For The Play Kismet, 1911"
Alexandre Bailly, French painter and decorator, married Louise Suzanne JAMBON in Paris 19th on May 29, 1894, daughter of Marcel JAMBON, decorator. He worked in partnership with his father-in-law Marcel Jambon from 1894 to 1908, then alone, for various theaters, including the Paris Opera (1895 to 1923), the Opéra-Comique (1903 to 1924). Upon Jambon's death, he took sole charge of the workshop, 73 rue Secrétan in Paris 19th. The assembly in the box is recent, a cardboard panel has been redone. The play Kismet was written by Knoblauch, directed by L.Guitry and performed at the Théâtre Sarah Bernhardt in 1911. The inscription Kismet and L.Guitry is on a tab now stuck to the floor of the set (see photo).
