Son and grandson of Parisian goldsmiths established since 1847 rue du Temple, Alphonse Debain had his punch insculcated in 1883 and settled at 79 rue du Temple where he succeeded Philippe Berthier, specialized in small table goldsmithing and religious goldsmithing. He presented his first achievements at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1889 and obtained a gold medal for his cutlery and a toilet service.
