Mathieu Befort, known as Befort Jeune (1813–1880), was a prominent 19th-century French politician. Cabinetmaker from a renowned family of cabinetmakers. His father, Jean-Baptiste Befort, originally from Belgium, supplied furniture to the apartments of the Duke of Orléans. Mathieu took over the family business from his brother Bernard and settled in Paris, where he was active from 1836 to 1880. His work is known for its luxurious, handcrafted pieces in the Napoleon III style, with a strong emphasis on Boulle marquetry and the use of high-quality materials such as hard stone and bronze.
