Object description :

"Napoleon Lllperiod Napoleon Lll"
Bronze mantel clock, Vernis Martin decoration – Napoleon III period France, late 19th century Height: 36 cm – Width: 22 cm – Depth: 12.8 cm Charming mantel clock in finely chiseled gilt bronze, decorated with a painted decoration in the 18th century style, representing a gallant pastoral scene in a bucolic landscape. The decoration, executed in the Vernis Martin style, elegantly evokes the Louis XV style revisited under the Second Empire. The floral dial with Arabic numerals, protected by a domed glass, is set in a richly decorated rococo silhouette, surmounted by a foliate pediment. The movement has a chime at the back, accompanied by its pendulum and key. The striking, of rare beauty, produces a warm, deep and captivating melody - a true film atmosphere. The mechanism is signed L. Marti et Cie, a prestigious watchmaking house founded in Paris in 1832 by Samuel Marti, one of the great movement makers of the 19th century. Renowned for the quality of his mechanisms, he notably won a silver medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889. Clocks bearing his signature are highly sought after today for their reliability and elegance characteristic of the Belle Époque. In 30 years of business, this is the first time I have discovered a clock like this: it is simply incredible. It will require servicing – sold as is. A remarkable collector's item, ideal for lovers of decorative watchmaking and French style. It perfectly embodies the art of living of the Second Empire and will appeal to both European connoisseurs and international enthusiasts of Louis XV taste.
