Art Deco Onyx And Bronze Clock Signed By M. Charny – The Young Woman With The Turtle
An elegant Art Deco-era onyx clock featuring cream, honey, and orange veining, topped by a bronze sculpture with a brown patina signed by M. Charny.
The composition depicts a young woman kneeling on a drapery, her chin resting on one hand, observing a small turtle toward which she points a slender wand. The softness of the modeling and the grace of her posture lend this scene a special charm.
The clock’s body, with its rounded sides, is accented by a gilded bronze band decorated with turtles and foliage. A pendulum adorned with a bronze turtle, visible beneath the dial, completes this original animal-themed design.
The white dial with Arabic numerals is surrounded by a brass bezel. The mechanical movement is stamped “Société Clusienne – S.C.A.P.H. – Cluses” and chimes the hours and half-hours on a bell.
