Object description :

"Japanese 2-panel Screen Edo Period 17/18th Century"
Entirely based on gold leaf, it describes the legend of Hashime, a woman who waited for her husband for many years... The mountainous setting is cut out by gold leaf, representing clouds, a pagoda among pine trees and cherry trees in blossom. A man is lying among the foliage while another seems to flee in terror. 3 cranes in flight bring a patch of light to the scene. Few screens have described this legend. Dimensions: L180 x H162 cm.
