Object description :

"Entombment, French Drawing, 2nd Half Of The 17th Century"
The group: Joseph of Arimathea supporting the body of Christ, the Virgin and 2 holy women, as well as the two cherubs, is directly inspired by Sébastien Bourdon whose very famous composition was engraved by Jean Boulanger. (see photo). The author of the drawing added 4 additional characters: St John, Mary Magdalene, Nicomedes as well as the soldier who will guard the sepulchre. The backgrounds are modified compared to the engraving and only reveal the Calvary. Drawing in black chalk which has undergone numerous small scratches.
