Louis XV Bonnetière in Fruitwood – Mid-19th Century

This elegant Louis XV-style bonnetière captivates with its gently curved lines, rich carved details, and the natural charm of its light-toned fruitwood. It has been carefully updated through a respectful makeover that enhances the beauty of its original materials without compromising its authenticity.

Every element—from the burl elm inlays on the upper and lower crosspieces to the hand-finished craftsmanship—reflects a unique piece shaped by an artisan devoted to both beauty and durability.

The piece opens with a single door, framed by a finely chiseled iron escutcheon and topped with its original cornice featuring generous moldings. Inside, it currently holds three shelves, but its depth makes it easy to convert into a wardrobe. It stands on gracefully curved “doe feet,” typical of the Louis XV style. The back is made entirely of solid wood, and the structure is assembled with traditional mortise and tenon joinery—an enduring hallmark of quality craftsmanship. The original lock is in working order, with its key.

The piece has benefited from aerogommage, a soft, eco-friendly stripping technique that cleans wood thoroughly without damaging it. This process highlights the beautiful grain of the fruitwood and brings out its warm, natural tones, while ensuring a clean and durable finish.

A true witness of time, its silhouette and structure tell a story passed down through generations—where period elegance meets refreshed charm. Thanks to its light, natural finish, this bonnetière fits beautifully into both country chic interiors and more contemporary décors seeking authenticity and character.

This fusion of antique beauty and modern practicality makes it both a decorative and functional piece.

Provenance: formerly used to store wine bottles in a reception room of a historic wine estate in the Loire Valley, a region celebrated for its refined lifestyle and rich furniture heritage.
