Louis XV–Louis XVI Transition-Style Cabinet in Solid Walnut – 18th Century

A very beautiful two-door cabinet in solid walnut, dating from the 18th century, featuring elegant decoration characteristic of the transition period between the Louis XV and Louis XVI styles.

The front, which is particularly well-balanced, opens with two large doors featuring multiple molded panels. The upper panels retain a slightly undulating design inherited from the Louis XV style, while the vertical fluting, geometric motifs, and more architecturally structured composition already foreshadow the Louis XVI repertoire.

Of particular note are the middle panels, carved with fine fluting, as well as the central post, strongly punctuated by vertical fluting, which lends the entire piece great elegance and height.

The upper section is crowned by a beautiful, molded, and slightly arched cornice, while the lower section rests on carved legs joined by a wide, scroll-cut crossbar, still strongly influenced by the Louis XV style.

The doors are mounted on long brass hinges, adding a beautiful touch of quality to this cabinet. The spacious interior is fitted with several shelves.

The walnut features a beautiful, warm, and deep antique patina, with the natural marks and nuances acquired over the centuries that give this authentic 18th-century piece all its charm.

A cabinet full of character, with harmonious proportions, notable for its blend of the supple lines of the Louis XV style and the emerging rigidity of the Louis XVI style.
