"Small Box Or Pillbox, Rocaille Decor With Putto And Festoons, 18th Century "
Small circular box/pillbox in tortoiseshell and silver inlay, the lid decorated with a winged putto with a quiver, surrounded by festoons and various attributes (flag, drum, palm) in a lively cartouche with concave and convex exedrae, the cardinal points decorated with four shells, the extreme periphery with leafy scrolls. Period 18th century. Diameter 5.5cm. There are signs of shocks and losses documented as best as possible in the photographs. Hinge in good working order, but handle with great care. A very elegant example in the purest spirit of the so-called Rocaille ornamentalists.
