Antique gold and silver ring set with rose-cut diamonds, circa 1770-1780 Rare antique ring dating from the second half of the 18th century, typical of French productions around 1770–1780. The bezel is adorned with seven rose-cut diamonds, set in closed 18-carat yellow gold settings, decorated with small pearls and scalloped prongs. The whole forms a highly sculpted relief composition, characteristic of 18th-century jewelry. Notable feature: the interior of the ring body was modified in the 20th century by the addition of an inner silver ring, probably to reduce the ring size. This ancient intervention, solidly executed, gives the ring a slightly thicker structure and does not affect its fit in any way. The outer setting, including the prongs and the plate, is indeed in 18-carat yellow gold. The ring remains in very good overall condition: the diamonds are well maintained, despite some signs of use and slight wear on the reverse of the settings, perfectly in keeping with its age. This type of jewelry was often offered in a sentimental or family context, and this piece could very well have belonged to a tradition of transmission.
