A very fine "Satsuma" vase painted by the famous Okamoto Ryozan in Kyoto. Okamoto Ryozan was one of the finest ceramic painters of the Meiji period in Japan and is known for his exquisite paintings on Satsuma ware. He worked mainly for the Yasuda house, which was renowned for the exceptional quality of its Satsuma ware.

The vase is decorated with a main scene depicting well-to-do figures in magnificent robes by a lake, with a beautiful plum blossom tree in the background. The back is decorated with a Japanese maple tree and colorful foliage. The sides are decorated with cartouches, finely painted with various gold designs.

The back of the vase has a brown line, visible in the photos. Excellent condition.
