Claude Galle, Pair Of Zephyr Candlesticks From The Empire Period.

Beautiful pair of chiseled, patinated and gilded bronze candlesticks, the shaft formed by stylized rays carrying a sphere encircled by a band decorated with four signs of the zodiac: Libra, Capricorn, Aries and Scorpio.
The whole surmounted by a Zephyr blowing clouds, the latter forming the bobèche.
Round base decorated with a central star and thunderbolts.

Claude Galle delivered a similar model in 1805 for the Château de Fontainebleau, for the second salon of the Empress. Cf: JP Samoyault, Pendules et bronzes d'ameublement entrées sous le Premier Empire, musée national du château de Fontainebleau, 1989, p. 40.
