Altar Cloth Covering - Pelican Embroidery - Stars - Late 19th Century
Superb antique liturgical altar facing, also called frontal, in ivory-colored damask silk, richly embroidered with gold threads. It is decorated in its center with a mystical pelican, symbol of Christ's sacrifice, surrounded by rays of glory. The fabric is also decorated with several gold stars. The edge is highlighted with a gold border and the bottom is finished with long gold fringes. End of the 19th century 52x164cm Good general condition, some visible signs of use (see photos).
