"Pierre Philippe Bertrand (1884-1975), Sea Landscape"
Oil on panel circa 1930, depicting a seaside landscape with its wild beach. It is probably the Vendée coast. Good general condition. Signed "Bertrand" Pierre Philippe Bertrand, born May 4, 1884 in Lorient and died November 9, 1975 in Paris, is a self-taught French painter. Initially intended for a military career, he turned to painting after studying at La Flèche. From 1907, he exhibited in the Parisian Salons and presented his first solo exhibition in 1914 at the Galerie Devambez. Mobilized during the First World War, he was taken prisoner and produced portraits of his comrades in captivity. In 1926, he settled on the island of Yeu, which became a major source of inspiration for his marine and landscape works. Appointed official painter of the Navy in 1936, he was forced to leave the island in 1939 due to the German occupation and took refuge in Nantes. His impressionist style highlights light and coastal landscapes, particularly those of Brittany and Vendée. Dimensions: 61.5 / 30 cm
