Object description :

"19th Century Bronze Sculpture, Signed Aizelin, Goddess With Cupid"
A superb French patinated bronze sculpture from the mid-19th century, signed Aizelin, depicting an allegorical and mythological scene between a seated goddess and a winged cherub — a representation imbued with tenderness, symbolism, and classical harmony. Eugène-Antoine Aizelin (1821–1902) was a celebrated French sculptor, known for his refined works exhibited at the Paris Salon and his ability to convey grace and narrative in allegorical form.

The female figure, identified as a goddess by her dignified pose, flowing drapery, and serene expression, sits while holding a small bundle of arrows — a direct allusion to Cupid and the divine forces of love. Beside her, the young cherub contemplates one of the arrows, his thoughtful demeanor capturing the poetic innocence of myth. Their interaction suggests a moment of teaching or initiation, rich with meaning and emotional depth.

The composition is superbly modeled in a warm brown patina, with crisp detailing in the fabric, hair, and anatomy. The sculpture is signed “AIZELIN” on the side of the integrated bench-like base, supported by decorative, turned feet.

A magnificent example of 19th-century French bronze art, ideal for collectors of neoclassical sculpture, mythological themes, or romantic allegory.
