"Very Large Mumuye Statue Nigeria "
Very large Mumuye statue, height 1m52, practically a human size, these statues were guardians of village or chiefdom. It has all the plastic characteristics of Mumuye statues, with these cubist forms, the long zig-zag arms, the short legs, the disproportionate trunk .... very appreciated by lovers of modern art. In good general condition with a significant patina of old use, traces of black drips probably from rituals with animal blood, it is on a base. Note the double navel (meaning unknown to me!) and 2 large reliquary holes which allowed to insert either a relic of an important person, or a symbolic material for hunting, cultures or others. From the same very good collection as the 2 Senoufos, estimated age early 20th or late 19th. It is very lit for the photo, it is less bright in reality.
