Death Of Cleopatra, Second Half Of The 17th Century. (113 X 152cm H With Antique Frame).

Splendid oil on canvas, painted by a talented painter of the Roman school who probably worked in the Roman workshop of Cavalier Perugino, given the numerous stylistic and iconographic consonances with his later works.

The beautiful Cleopatra is depicted here in the fateful moment of tormented desperation in which, overcome by despair, she decides to kill herself by being bitten by the poisonous Asp or Egyptian cobra that she holds firmly in her right hand.

The thunderous drapes of her clothes do not cast doubt on the Roman origin of the painter and are endowed with a lively chromatism that overall gives charm to the composition.

The canvas that mounts on an ancient frame, but with some problems given that over the centuries it has been restored to wood, is in excellent condition and does not require restoration.
