Alexander the Great and the Philosopher French School around 1700, The subject of Alexander highly appreciated by Louis XIV who entrusted Charles Le Brun with the mission of exalting the conqueror in a series of paintings and frescoes representing the great deeds of Alexander the big. And we know that Louis XIV himself was presented as the new Alexander. Our painting represents Alexander interacting with a philosopher (probably Aristotle) who accompanied his education at the request of his father Philip of Macedonia. He is represented in general's outfit faithful to the iconography of the time, the project which inspired his enterprise was a philosophical project and tended to bring about the unity of the human race.
