Jacques Courtois the Borgognone
(Saint -Hyppolite 1621 - Rome 1676)
Oil painting on canvas
Golden frame
Canvas measures 133 x 98 frame 150 x 115
Very good condition
The painting was clean and relined.

The large canvas depicts a spectacular battle that rages under the fortress with unprecedented violence.
The scenes described are as dramatic as impressive for the crudeness of the images.
A series of clashes of incredible realism in a vortex of sequences that transmit to the viewer a sense of dismay are followed throughout the painting.
The composition is very articulated and the generous size of the work allows the author to exhibit all his vast repertoire in the guerrillas scenes.
In fact, the canvas must be attributed to Jacques Courtois' renowned shop, nicknamed "Borgognone" for its French origins, one of the most famous and prolific painting battles in the capital during the seventeenth century.
His compositions had enormous success and lent themselves excellently to furnish the magnificent noble palaces of Rome and surroundings.
The painting has already been cleaned and professionally back and is complete with an important golden frame.
