This beautiful pair of oil paintings on canvas displays all the pictorial and chromatic characteristics of the most elegant Venetian landscape painting of the 18th century.
The compositions are particularly harmonious, and the remarkable interplay of light between the shaded areas of the dense vegetation in the foreground and the luminous backgrounds is highly striking.
These are clearly two works of the highest caliber that readily align with the oeuvre of Pietro Antonio Domenichini (1699–1743), known as the “Master of the Blue Mountains,” a leading figure in Venetian landscape painting of the “Golden Age.” Venetian. Typical of his repertoire are the refined pale blue hues of the distant mountains, which create a remarkable sense of depth, and the figures rendered with skillful brushstrokes in the Venetian tradition.
The two canvases are a fine size, complete with their splendid original gilded frames, and are in excellent condition.
The paintings complement each other perfectly, and their arrangement on the wall is exceptionally elegant.
